The crash...pictures

We went to the tow yard the other day and took pictures of the van. The girls keep asking where the van is and when it would be fixed so we took them with us so they could see the van again and try to grasp the idea that the van is REALLY broken.

Needless to say, they have totaled the van. The guy that the insurance company sent to inspect it said that the frame was damaged pretty badly and they couldn't believe that we had escaped with mostly bruised and sore muscles.

It was hard to take pictures from the drivers side because of the way the van was positioned in the tow yard. It was really close to another van on the driver's side and the front was up against another car too.

Emily was especially interested to see the "white things that flew in our van". She was scared to death when the air bags deployed, but we've explained to her that the air bags are like big pillows that helped keep mommy and daddy from getting hurt during the crash.

The headlight was completely torn off. There were several kinds of fluids just pouring from underneath the van.

I think the girls now understand that the van is broken and we won't get to drive it any more. It was good for them to see it again. They were very much in shock when they towed the van away after the accident and I don't think they really understood what had happened and didn't understand why the van was gone. Emily was consumed with questions and worries about how we were going to get home.
Now that we have a rental van and new car seats the girls aren't as consumed with questions about the van and the accident as they were. They really enjoy their new car seats and the rental van has power doors that the girls love. Every time I open the doors with the button Alexa says "thank you doors!".
I've done pretty much nothing else except talk on the phone to insurance companies for the last two days. I'm pretty stressed and frazzled about the whole ordeal, especially now that we know the van is totaled and we have to start shopping for a new van. I am not happy about that nor am I looking forward to it. *sigh* Wish us luck, I think we will need it!

  1. I'm thankful that both of you, your folks, and the girls are all safe and we'll be thinking of all of you as you deal with the insurance companies and the emotional well-being of your girls.

That said, with the current economic problems and the time of year, you probably couldn't be in a better position as far as financing and pricing go for finding a new van. Perhaps you can even get one with doors that you can thank each day!

  2. How scary! I'm so glad you are all ok. That is the most important thing. Having to get a new van...although not the ideal situation, will work itself out. Those things always do!
