Mini vacation of sorts

Let me start by saying that we haven't had a vacation since the girls have been born and we've only attempted a mini vacation once before now. It was last October, and it was a 6-7 hour drive to visit the girls' Great Grandmother in Kentucky. The girls haven't slept anywhere but home (except for hospital stays) since they were infants and on that trip they would NOT go to sleep for anything. We had to cut the trip short after the first night to get them home to their own beds so they (and the rest of us) could get some much needed sleep.

This time we opted for a much shorter drive. That way if they wouldn't go to sleep we would be much closer to home. We drove a couple hours away and and stayed in hotel that had an indoor pool, and an outdoor pool & hot tub. There was lots to see and the hotel would shuttle you to other nearby attractions as well. I was pleasantly surprised that the girls slept fine this time. Phew, what a relief!

The girls had a blast in the pool and cried when we made them get out. We didn't have much choice but to make them get out after a while because Madison was so cold she was shaking like a leaf (and we were in the indoor heated pool). After they got out of the pool, they got in the hot tub briefly to warm up and then got dried off and dressed.

The "school bus" (shuttle) was another favorite thing for the girls to do. This picture was taken in front of a nearby hotel.

This was the Madison on the drive home. Although she slept well at the hotel, the swimming, walking and lack of naps wore her out.

Emily was also tuckered out. Poor thing woke up when we were about 30 minutes from home and was crying because her neck hurt.

Alexa fell asleep too. I think it's funny to see her propping her feet on the seat in front of her. The girls almost never fall asleep while we're driving so they must have been worn out!

Mamaw Linda and Papaw Ron went with us too and took lots of pictures. Hopefully they got some good pictures and maybe we will be able to post some of them enjoying the pool and things that we didn't get pictures of on our camera.

I think everyone had a good time and I'm SO glad we finally had success with the girls sleeping away from home. Maybe now it won't be a problem for us to make other trips or for the girls to be able to spend the night with Grandparents.

  1. How nice. Glad you got to get away for a couple days!!! It's always nice to come home, too, though, huh?

  2. Those pictures are adorable!

And I'm so glad we're not the only ones who have had a nightmare experience with sleeping away from home. During our trip to Texas last week, I thought we were going to go crazy by 2:30 in the morning.

Glad this trip went better for you!
