Alexa's appointment with her allergist yesterday confirmed my concerns that she will not be safe in a classroom where peanuts are permitted. I cannot in good conscious put her back in an environment that is unsafe for her, especially now that I know that she has been given snacks that contained peanuts on several occasions.
For these reasons, we have decided to remove Alexa, Emily and Madison from the preschool. I notified the school today.

OMG! I cannot believe the negligence that this school has shown. I'm speechless. Good for you for removing your daughters before something fatal happened. You made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a more difficult decision than I anticipated. The girls LOVED school, loved their teachers and the girls really need the learning environment and social interaction. But when it comes down to it, their safety comes first. I guess mommy will be teacher now and I will find other ways to give them social interaction with other kids.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that! Look around, out here in Ca. almost every school asks about allergies and if there is a peanut allergy, all peanuts/peanut butter is BANNED from all kids lunches/snacks. Keep looking - shame on them!
ReplyDeleteYou would think that in this day and age, where so many kids have peanut allergies, all schools would be more careful about it. I know our preschool is very small, but it is a peanut free school. I hope you can find a school that will be more accomodating for her!
ReplyDeleteMorgan Mommy & Mandy,
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that the school wasn't more careful about it too. The teachers told me from the beginning of school that they were keeping peanuts out of her classroom entirely. Even the afternoon class was not supposed to bring in snacks containing peanuts to that classroom. We are still looking at some other preschools, but in the meantime we have "school" here at home and I try to do lessons everyday similar to what they were doing. It's not easy, but we will manage.
