Warm Weather, Walks, and Bicycle Rides

Since spring began the girls have been wanting daddy to take them for a walk. Now that summer is here and they have their bicycles (and have learned how to use them), they are wanting to go for bike rides. The weather recently has been in the 90's and it is usually too hot to do either. However, I can not say no to the girls when they beg for me to do something fun with them. So, I prep them for hot outdoor weather play and either go for a walk or take a bicycle ride. Then we stop at the swing set for a little "higher daddy higher" or "faster daddy faster". What do they think I am, a machine? It is 90+ degrees and I am hopping between 3 swings trying to keep them going. (They haven't learned to swing on their own yet, but they are trying.). Despite the heat and the heat exhaustion, I keep up the fun and to my reward, we end up back at the house all eating a popcicle and the girls wanting to do it again.

Every time I think about how much effort, blood, sweat, tears, and sanity go into these girls every day, I remember the song by Trace Adkins "You're going to miss this". Basically, the songs states that even though things may be rough, someday you are going to miss the things that are going on right now. I will miss the hugs, the kisses, the I love you's. I will miss the walks, holding hands to cross the street, the stopping to smell the flowers and pick dandylions. I will miss the swing set, throwing rocks in the creek, or being the protector from dogs that want to lick them.

STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Cherish every moment and never miss an opportunity to tell your children how much you love them. Children, never miss the opportunity to thank your parents for all the blood, sweat and tears that they had while you were going up. The past is gone, the future may not happen, and now is all you have.

  4. Tanya,

Thank you. Yes, I realize that and I will try to do better. Right now it is just me. But Melissa didn't know that the site had gone active yet. I guess I jumped the gun.
