Asthma attack, ear tubes, surgeries & more pictures

Today was hectic to say the least. Alexa kept us up most of the night last night with wheezing, coughing, fever and vomiting. She has asthma, so the wheezing and coughing happen from time to time but the fever and vomiting that came along with it were a surprise to me. The vomiting was probably a result from the constant coughing, and the fever is likely a virus of some kind. She was also really working hard to breath and I almost took her to the ER in the middle of the night but just as I was about to get her dressed and leave her breathing calmed some and she started to fall asleep.

I take her to the doctor this morning and after 4 or 5 breathing treatments nearly back to back and two doses of steriods, the doctor finally let her go home for a couple hours. I had to bring her back before his office closed so he could make sure she was doing well enough to keep from being admitted to the hospital. Apparently whatever virus she has sent her into a major asthma attack. We've never quite experienced this before (except the time she was diagnosed with pneumonia over 2 years ago) so I was preparing myself for a lengthy stay at the hospital. Luckily she had improved a little by the time we returned to the doctor and he was okay with me keeping her at home tonight, but he gave me specific instructions that if she worsened or if I was concerned about her breathing then I was to call him on his personal cell phone at any hour of the night. Yikes! I'm not sure if I should be touched at the dedication of the doctor, or if I should be scared that he was concerned enough to want to be woken up in the middle of the night. Right now I'm a little of both!

Since I was at the doctor with Alexa most of the day, daddy had to take Emily and Madison to Emily's ENT doctor for the follow up about her ear tubes. I can't remember how long ago this set of tubes were put in, but they are already dislodged and she's had at least two ear infections this year that I can remember. So I wasn't surprised when the doctor recommended that they put in another (her 3rd) set of ear tubes. What surprised be was how soon they scheduled it...two weeks! I think I will call and reschedule it since the date they picked doesn't work well for us, but Emily will be having another surgery soon. *sigh*

Speaking of surgeries, we've decided to proceed with surgery for Alexa's kidney reflux. We will do the bilateral ureter reimplantation. We're not in a huge rush to schedule it since the holidays are coming up, but we are thinking maybe sometime around March or so.

Now that all the updates are finished, here are more pictures from the photo shoot that I intended to post nearly a month ago.

  1. Very cute girls. Hope Alexa gets better. We just had a girl 6 months ago, our first.
